2020 CULTURAL HERITAGE COMMITTEE

The Cultural Heritage Committee advises the President, the Executive Director, the Board, and other ASOR leaders regarding initiatives ASOR might undertake, either individually or jointly with other bodies in the field of cultural heritage, to help protect and preserve the cultural heritage of the Near East. Pre-eminently, the Cultural Heritage Committee advises the President, the Executive Director, the Board, and other ASOR leaders regarding the ASOR Cultural Heritage Initiatives program (ASOR CHI), regarding both current and prospective ASOR CHI projects. The Cultural Heritage Committee also advises the President, and ASOR’s leadership more generally, regarding ways ASOR might interact with bodies such as the AIA Cultural Heritage Policy Committee and the SAA International Government Affairs Committee in formulating proposed policy positions or responses to various cultural heritage issues that the ASOR, the AIA, the SAA, and the AAA may jointly wish to champion and by helping draft statements or suggesting ASOR’s participation in actions initiated by others that work to safeguard cultural heritage. This committee reserves one line of membership for an Early Career Scholar and three lines of membership for ASOR members from outside of North America, in countries where ASOR promotes Cultural Heritage Initiatives.

2019 PUBLICATIONS COMMITTEE

The Publications Committee takes responsibility for overseeing ASOR publications, including ASOR’s three scholarly journals — the Bulletin of ASOR, Near Eastern Archaeology, and the Journal of Cuneiform Studies — and ASOR’s three monograph series — the Annual of ASOR (AASOR), the ASOR Archaeological Reports Series (ASOR – ARS), and the Journal of Cuneiform Studies Supplement Series (JCCSS). The committee oversees as well as ASOR’s digital database, the Levantine Ceramics Project, and ASOR’s Friends of ASOR e-newsletter, The ANE Today. In addition, the Publications Committee conducts searches for and recommends to the ASOR Board of Trustees individuals to serve as editors or in some cases co-editors of ASOR’s scholarly journals and monograph series. Typically, editors serve for three-year terms and can be renewed for a second term. Finally, the committee discusses and advises ASOR regarding new publication initiatives, especially digital publishing initiatives and making ASOR publications available through open access.

2018 PROGRAM COMMITTEE

The Program Committee takes responsibility for overseeing the academic program of the ASOR Annual Meeting, by determining the topics for the sessions to be held at the Annual Meeting; by appointing , as necessary, chairs for these sessions; by monitoring the work of the chairs as they solicit and vet paper proposals and by offering assistance as appropriate; by determining the proper administration of the “Posters on Parade” session; and by developing the Annual Meeting academic schedule.
