KAITLYNN ANDERSON

Digital Media Specialist
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Kaitlynn recently joined the ASOR staff as our Digital Media Specialist. Learn more about the staff member behind the ASOR blog, Facebook page, and Twitter.

Hello all!
My name is Kaitlynn Anderson and I’m the new Digital Media Specialist here at ASOR. I’m very excited about starting at this position and getting to meet a lot of you at the annual meeting in Baltimore this November.

A little about me: I grew up in a large family with five sisters and two brothers. Growing up, I was an active member with 4-H and the Tri-State Young Marines. I always had a passion for storytelling and video. When I was a senior in high school, I won first place in the video category at a state-level competition. From that point, I knew I wanted to work with video later in my life.

I graduated from West Virginia University in 2011 with a Bachelors of Science in Broadcast Journalism. During college, I worked on the news staff at the radio station U-92 “The Moose”, and became the youngest student to host the talk show “Feedback.” I took every chance I could to create new videos, from cultural videos during my time abroad to working as the official videographer for WVU NEWS during my senior year.

I spent a lot of time during and after college working with nonprofits and community service driven organizations. I joined the coed community service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, and held several offices while an active member. I often volunteered my services as a videographer and created several multi-media campaigns (and a few fun videos) for the organization. I later became an advisor of the WVU chapter.

My summers were spent working as a 4-H Extension Camp Instructor, where I taught classes on digital media and broadcasting. It’s always fun getting the kids involved. One summer, I was approached by a biology PhD graduate student who wanted to start a Science on Tap program. Their goal was to bring science to the community over pizza and beer. I volunteered my time to film the event each month and put it online for those who could not attend.

After graduation, I worked for the West Virginia Uncovered Project through AmeriCorps. At WV Uncovered, I worked to create relationships between the newspapers and schools in partner areas by initiating digital media training for educators in local schools. I also helped the WVU Communications program create an organ donor commercial with a few of their students.

Now that I’m with ASOR, I hope to bring my passion for video here too. I believe we can use digital media to increase communication – not just between the ASOR staff and all of our members, but between our organization and the public. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our new YouTube channel, ASORtv. Oh, and follow us on twitter @AmerSchOrietRes and like us on Facebook. I look forward to seeing you all at the Annual Meeting!
