Scope and Contents
This collection consists of slides and photographs from Dr. Melvin Lyon’s time as a physician for ASOR digs in the seventies and early eighties, with the majority of slides come from the early seventies. Included in this collection are slides taken at ASOR digs at Tel Gezer and Tel el-Hesi, Hesi Lahav, and Ebla. The majority of these slides are of the locations of the digs and the people involved; some of them document finds from the sites, including artifacts and human remains. In addition to the slides, there are photographs of the team for the 1970 Tel Gezer dig, photographs from an ASOR hosted reception in 1979, lecture notes that accompany the Ebla slides, and a copy of Dr. Lyons’s book, The Care and Feeding of Dirt Archaeologists. The General file contains slides from multiple archaeological digs that did not match up in location or date with any other archaeological digs or expeditions in this collection.
