Scope and Contents
This collection was compiled by Eleanor Vogel, archaeological secretary to Nelson Glueck. Vogel worked with Glueck from 1961 to 1979. This collection is comprised of over 4,000 photographs of archaeological sites, excavations, architecture, artifacts, and geographical features. The majority of the photographs were taken in the areas known today as Jordan, Israel, and Palestine. The bulk of these photographs were captured taken by Nelson Glueck from 1936-1945 during his travels in Palestine and Transjordan. Several folders contain photographs used for publications by Glueck including Deities and Dolphins: The Story of the Nabataeans (1965). The majority of the photographs depict camp life at archaeological dig sites. Contextual information, primarily in the form of handwritten notes, can be found in the scope note for each folder.
