2021 CALL FOR MEMBER-ORGANIZED SESSION & WORKSHOP PROPOSALS

2021 Approved Sessions and Workshops: Chicago, November 17-20
2021 Approved Sessions and Workshops: Online, December 9-12

ASOR’s 2021 Annual Meeting will have both in-person and virtual components. The in-person component will take place November 17-20 at the Hilton Chicago in downtown Chicago. The virtual component will take place online December 9-12. ASOR members are invited to submit proposals for sessions and workshops to be held in Chicago and/or online in December.

Deadline for session and workshop proposals is January 15, 2021

ASOR members may propose Member-Organized Sessions for papers around a specific topic or site, or Member-Organized Workshops that minimize formal presentations (maximum length of 10 minutes) in favor of open discussion. Sessions and workshops may be approved for up to 3 years and can accommodate presenters invited by the session chair as well as papers submitted by ASOR members (with the approval of the session chair).

The Member-Organized Session/Workshop proposal form is simple and can be submitted online. Proposals should include a session/workshop title, description, and a list of at least four potential speakers, indicating the subject of their presentation. This year the form will ask to specify if the session/workshop will be held in Chicago (Nov. 17–20), virtual (Dec. 9–12), or both. A virtual-only session/workshop may be proposed for a single year only (2021). Multi-year proposals should indicate a different theme or planned focus for each subsequent year. Proposals will be evaluated by the Program Committee based on the interest of the proposal itself, but also based on potential overlap with standing ASOR Sessions and with existing Member-Organized Sessions. A list of sessions and workshops that have already been approved for the 2021 in-person program in Chicago can be found here, while those being offered as part of the virtual component in December can be found here. Please read the instructions for session chairs to learn more about the requirements before proposing a session or workshop.

In early February 2021, after all session and workshop proposals have been evaluated, applicants will be notified if his or her proposal has been accepted for one or more years. Accepted sessions will be listed online with the description provided in the proposal, as well as in ASOR’s Online Abstract Management System. The online system will open for paper abstracts and workshop presentation proposals from February 15 to March 15, 2021.

If you are interested in submitting a new session or workshop proposal, we encourage you to contact the Program Committee co-chairs, Helen Dixon and Allison Thomason. For questions about the application process, you may also contact Arlene Press in the ASOR office.
