Scope and Contents
The collection primarily contains correspondence with archaeologists and ASOR associates regarding research and finances. Some of Detweiler’s more notable correspondents include William F. Albright, John Trever, Elizabeth Bechtel, Kathleen Kenyon, Albrecht Goetze, G. Ernest Wright, James Muilenburg, and Paul Lapp. The records also include correspondence with ASOR trustees and corporation members regarding the publication of ASOR bulletins, journals, and scholarly papers. Other contents of the collection include annual budgets, financial information, trustee memoranda, insurance, reports and publications. Correspondence and financial records relating to the expedition to Sardis are well represented in the collection. Records relating to ASOR’s Jerusalem School are also represented. Materials relating to the Dead Sea Scrolls are mainly press-releases and newspaper clippings, but the collection also contains correspondence and legal agreements relating to ASOR. The collection also includes materials related to the excavations at Nippur.
