Who were the Philistines? The Israelites’ greatest enemy, and their relationship to the Sea Peoples at the end of the Late Bronze Age, continues to fascinate scholars and the public alike. But new interpretations of inscriptions and new archaeological data suggest we may be getting closer to an answer.
In this Friends of ASOR podcast we talk with University of Toronto professor and former ASOR president Tim Harrison on the question of the Sea Peoples in North Syria and the Mediterranean coast. Harrison is a graduate of the University of Chicago and directs excavations at the important site of Tell Tayinat in southern Turkey. His research and publications have helped launch a new era of Sea Peoples studies, and we’re delighted he joined us for a conversation.
