WELCOME TO THE ASOR BLOG

The American Schools of Oriental Research (ASOR) is the preeminent society for individuals interested in the archaeology of the eastern Mediterranean and the Biblical Lands. This blog is intended to facilitate ASOR’s mission “to initiate, encourage and support research into, and public understanding of, the cultures and history of the Near East from the earliest times.”

The ASOR office staff has made some efforts to be a little greener as we do our part to further Near Eastern archaeology.

Web Based Outreach

News@ASOR has replaced our print newsletter, saving a lot of paper! Each issue of News@ASOR reaches 1,450 subscribers. The Ancient Near East Today e-newsletter reaches almost 10,000 subscribers. e-Newsletters help us save paper, while delivering great content monthly.

Several annual paper mailings have been replaced with e-mail reminders.

Eco-friendly office supplies

We use recycled printer paper and biodegradable cleaning supplies.

Recycling

We recycle toner cartridges, batteries, and of course all paper, cans, and bottles.

Minimizing waste

To reduce trash, staff members opt for favorite mugs and waterbottles instead of plastic cups. Plastic forks have been replaced by reusable silverware and dishes.

Clean commuters

The office staff commutes to work on foot or by public transit (except for Kaitlynn, who carpools in a Prius).

Plants in the Publications Dept.

The Publications and Membership area features big windows that let in lots of sun. The staff has taken advantage of the light and livened up the office with a mini garden of cacti and succulents, golden pothos, cherry tomatoes, and jalapeño plants.
