WELCOME TO THE ASOR BLOG
The American Schools of Oriental Research (ASOR) is the preeminent society for individuals interested in the archaeology of the eastern Mediterranean and the Biblical Lands. This blog is intended to facilitate ASOR’s mission “to initiate, encourage and support research into, and public understanding of, the cultures and history of the Near East from the earliest times.”
Discussion of ASOR’s Ethics Policy
A Special Invitation from the Co-Chairs of the Program Committee of the Annual Meeting:

On Friday, November 21st, 12:45-1:45pm, the ASOR Membership will hold a discussion about our Professional Ethics Policy (see draft here). Please attend! This meeting is the centerpiece of a multi-year project to revise our policy. We need as many members as possible at our discussion to ensure that we create a new policy that reflects the views and interests of our members. In order to make sure as many people attend as possible, we have scheduled the discussion at a time when there are no competing ASOR events.
We know that many of you like to meet for lunch and catch up with old friends. We hope on Thursday that you will do that at the Professional Ethics Policy discussion meeting! We are setting up the largest ballroom with tables and chairs for as many members as possible. Bring your lunch, sit with your friends, and help shape an ethics policy that will move ASOR forward. This is an important initiative that will set the professional standards associated with our organization for years to come – and we want to know what you think.
Organizations like ours work best when everyone is involved. The creation of a new set of professional standards has been a lengthy and labor-intensive process, but we are not done yet. We still need your opinion on these issues.
If you are a member but you will not be attending this month’s meeting in San Diego, you can still review the ethics policy and submit your comments to Lynn Swartz-Dodd and Susan Ackerman.
