The distribution of coins unearthed by the DIAR excavations (1971-84) can be compared to other published numismatic reports on Caesarea: Hohlfelder 1984, Hohlfelder 1985, Ariel 1986, and Lampenin 1992.
Earlier coins are not represented in the Hohlfelder and (to a lesser extent) the Ariel articles because these excavations focused on the late Roman and Byzantine city. Earlier coins are probably also under-represented in the DIAR excavations, as not all areas have been taken down to earliest levels. In general, the number of coins increases through the third century ce.
