Archaeology Adventure!!

Introduction

Your big chance has arrived!!!  In this project we will actually invent our own new and exciting cultures as a class.  Using your knowledge of cultural universals and your experience thinking like an archaeologist, YOU will create a geographic setting, decide the time period and determine the values of this culture.  We will construct artifacts to represent these basic elements of a society.

In this project our class will gain knowledge of how people have shaped their beliefs and behaviors in the face of universal human problems and needs.  We will have an opportunity to share creativity and use our knowledge.

Directions

STEP ONE:   Brainstorm a list of ideas for the culture we will create.  The culture needs to be based on a common idea shared by all people in the culture. 

STEP TWO:  Share your ideas in your group.  Narrow the group’s choices to one or two of the best ideas.  Remember that the idea must be broad and interesting enough for all aspects of a culture to be based on it. 

STEP THREE:  Complete the Create-A-Culture worksheet for your best idea(s).

STEP FOUR:   Select a group representative to share your culture ideas with the class.
