ASOR's Heritage Excavation Grant program is funded
directly by contributions from our Heritage Members. These scholarships may be
either designated by the donor for a specific excavation project or individual
and are open to participants in any of ASOR's CAP affiliated projects. Grant support
will normally be between $1,000 and $2,000.
Application
Deadline: March 20, 2008
Criteria:
Individual applicants must be members of ASOR or be enrolled as students at an
Institutional Member of ASOR [see list of Institutional
Members]. Directors of Excavations may apply on behalf of their projects.
Applicants may only
apply for funding at CAP affiliated excavations unless the Heritage donor specifies
otherwise [see complete list of CAP affiliated projects].
Applications from individuals must include a letter of support from the Director
of the affiliated excavation project. If the letter is not received by the application
deadline, the application may be disqualified.
Upon completion of the field season a report of 250-500 words and an appropriate
*photo (digital, 300 dpi or higher) onsite must be submitted to the Boston Office
by Sept.15th, 2008. Reports and photos should be sent via email to asor@bu.edu.
Grant recipients will be required to sign a waiver indicating that ASOR is not
responsible for any injuries they might sustain during their time at the excavation
they choose to participate in. They will also be required to sign a release of
rights to ASOR for the inclusion of their report and photograph in one of ASOR's
publications.
About
the Heritage Membership
Heritage Members work with
ASOR to establish a Heritage Partnership with one of ASOR's affiliated excavation
projects. ASOR will distribute funds to the designated project as advised by the
Heritage Member. If the Heritage member does not designate the funds, a selection
committe may make the allocations. Heritage Members may choose to participate
actively (on field teams or with laboratory work), or passively providing grant
support to enable student or staff participation, underwrite equipment purchases
or publication costs, or offer other assistance according to their own wishes
and arrangements with project leaders.
This membership category consists
of a tax deductible contribution to ASOR of $2500. $500 supports the ongoing work
of ASOR and $2000 goes toward the direct support of a scholarship, excavation
or publication project through the Heritage Grant program. Benefits of this membership
category include: - A Voice and vote at the Annual Membership Meeting
(through an authorized representative)
- Member discounts on all ASOR book
and journal publications.
- Discounts on Annual Meeting registration
- Access
to the quarterly ASOR Newsletter which provides general information about
ASOR and its activities.
- Recognition for their donation in ASOR publications
such as the ASOR Newsletter, NEA, JCS, and BASOR.
