in the southern Levant

Jerusalem, 5 June 2005

Seminar hosted by the Albright Institute for Archaeological Research, 26 Salah ed-Din St, Jerusalem

organizers:
Benjamin A. Saidel
Eveline J. van der Steen

The success of last year's seminar "On the fringe of society" has inspired us to organize another seminar, on 5 June 2005. Again the location will be the W.F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Jerusalem. The theme of this year's seminar is "new insights on the Archaeology of the Ottoman and Mandate periods in the Southern Levant".

Purpose of this seminar is to demonstrate how archaeological research can provide additional information on the Ottoman and Mandate periods in Palestine and Transjordan. Second, by presenting new information on these periods it is hoped to demonstrate to our colleagues that archaeological materials from 1700 to 1918 are worthy of legal protection.

If you want to attend (part of) this seminar please contact the organizers (Benjamin Saidel or Eveline van der Steen). Those who wish to attend are asked to pay a $10 fee to cover the costs of the seminar. Please note that the lecture room at the Albright is rather small. If you do not register in advance we cannot guarantee that you have a seat.
